Lock-armed

 "Hope happens when conditions are as these;

Comes finally lock-armed with death and sin,

When deep'ning dark demands its full display.

Then fallen nature driven to her knees

Flames russet, auburn, orange fierce from within

And bush burns brighter for the growing grey."

Door

Hosea writes of a door of hope. A door. Gateway. Access point. A door. Of hope. Of hope? Is the door the hope? Is the hope the door? Is it possibly a door for hope? For hope to come to us, or us to take hold of and pursue hope, like a rope we climb, fist-over fist, out of a pit?

"I will give her her vineyards from there,

And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope;

She shall sing there,

As in the days of her youth,

As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt."

A Long Engagement by Jason Farley

But the wait, at least sometimes—
to me, mind you—
seems like a long engagement.
